“I didn’t know it but I was destined to be your mama.”

From: Forrest Gump

Genre: Movies

Who said it?: Mrs. Gump

The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes from the very quotable film from 1994 film, Forrest Gump. Based on the book of the same name, Forrest Gump is a person of low IQ but, despite his apparent handicap, he proceeds to go on different new adventures and meet people who would go on to make history, making his life one of the most fulfilling ones ever.

The quote comes in the middle portion of the film. Forrest Gump (played by Tom Hanks) rushes home when he learns that his mother, Mrs. Gump (played by Sally Field) is slowly dying. Forrest asks why she’s dying and she replies that it’s just something all people eventually will have to do. It’s at this time when Mrs. Gump delivers the quote to Forrest as she looks back at how things happen for a reason.

Geek wisdom: You cannot choose your mother as you are born from her. The same thing can be same for your mother as they didn’t choose you. If your mother raised and treated you right, it’s only fair you reciprocate the same to them, especially on Mother’s Day.

“I’m not like a regular mom. I’m a cool mom.”

From: Mean  Girls

Genre: Movies

Who said it?: June George / Regina George’s mom

The story behind the quote: The quote comes Mean Girls, a film that has a very strong cult following and a very quotable movie. The film follows Cady (played by Lindsey Lohan), who gets invited to join the Plastics, the school’s clique of popular girls, and Cady and her friends use this as an opportunity to take down the group.

The quote comes from the middle of the film. Regina George (played by Rachel McAdams) invites Cady and the rest of the Plastics to her home. Cady meets June George, Regina’s mother and portrayed by Amy Poehler. Despite her age, she still tries to act young and be all chummy with her daughter’s friends, which is why she delivers the quote.

Geek wisdom: You can’t change what your mom is like. She may be cool. She may not. Whatever the case, it’s nearly Mother’s Day and we all should really appreciate all she’s done for us.

“E. T. phone home.”

From: E. T. The Extra-Terrestrial

Genre: Movies

Who said it?: E. T., Elliot and Gertie

The story behind the quote: The quote comes from the classic Steven Spielberg film, Steven Spielberg. The movie is all about an alien who gets left on Earth and is found by a group of kids. The kids attempt to find a way for the alien, who calls himself E. T., to send a message to his home planet in order to rescue him.

The quote comes fairly early in the film. Gertie (played by a very young Drew Barrymore) manages to teach E. T. a few rudimentary words. After returning home, Elliot (played by Henry Thomas) discovers E. T. can talk and starts trying to communicate with him as well. E. T. manages to string together the words he’s learned from Gertie to deliver the quote and to convey what he needs to do.

Geek wisdom: Tomorrow is Mother’s Day! Don’t forget to call your Mother on this special day! I’m sure she’ll appreciate it!
