“You know, I keep telling everybody they should move on. Grow. Some do. But not us.”

From: Avengers: Endgame

Genre: Movies

Who said it?: Captain America/Steve Rogers

The story behind the quote: This quote comes from the 22nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame. This film not only closes out the Infinity Saga but also serves as the conclusion to some of the Marvel heroes’ stories, such as Iron Man/Tony Stark and Captain America/Steve Rogers, among others. The story picks up around five years after the events of Avengers: Infinity War with the heroes picking up the pieces after Thanos‘ successful purge of half of the universe’s population.

The quote comes near the start of the film with Captain America/Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans) returns to the Avengers base after leading a group grief counseling meeting and has a talk with Black Widow about what he discusses during these meetings but he knows what he’s saying is hypocritical by delivering the quote.

Geek wisdom: It is important to move on from the past. But, like with what Captain America said, it can be very difficult and, at times, it actually might be the right way to handle things. Simply moving on may not be the answer when you can still do something about what happened in the past. Sometimes, focusing on what went wrong may be the only way to find a solution.

Most of my childhood (and adult life) was spent doing a lot of geeky stuff: watching TV, playing video games and going to the movies. To some, it may have been a waste of time. Well, to me, it has made me what I am today... a geeky adult. I actually write for a couple of blogs, namely: geekwisdom.wordpress.com 3rdworldgeeks.com gamemoir.com Please check them out!

  1. Yeah and he sure did a bang up job of actually moving on himself now didn’t he? Rather than remaining in the present where he should have stayed to continue fighting because that is what soldiers do he chose to give up and return to the past which was a mistake and serious character regression. He had his shot and he chose duty and to serve so he damn well should have stuck with that. Us soldiers don’t just pack it up and give up like that just because shit gets bad or difficult we keep on fighting because someone has to hold the line. I never honestly saw the appeal in Peggy to be honest always struck me as the stuck up snobbish type like some knew in school growing up she had more than enough opportunities during the time she was fighting alongside steve during the war to make her feelings known and she seriously chose the very last minute like that to do it before he went off on a plane he might not return from or have a way back from?

Moving on is just that ya move forward…improve do better get better you don;t just stop and regress unless rest is needed due to injury.

But then again never cared much for Cap’s type the dogooder hero type like him and the boyscout Superman. The kind at times to often let other’s opinions affect their judgement rather than doing what needs to be done with no hesitation.
