“Rule #1: Never change the deal.”

From: The Transporter (2002)

Genre: Movies

Who said it?: Frank Martin

The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes from the 2002 action movie, The Transporter. The movie features Jason Statham as Frank Martin. Frank is a highly skilled driver who uses his talents as a “transporter” for the underworld. Despite this, Frank follows a code of ethics and a set of rules. However, when he is double-crossed by one of his clients, he decides to take matters into his own hands.

The quote comes at the very start of the movie. Frank has been hired as the getaway driver for a gang of bank robbers. When he notices that there are four people instead of the agreed upon three, Frank delivers the quote, the first rule of his code, and explains why he would be unable to make the getaway because of the extra weight.

Geek wisdom: When you make a promise, always keep it. Don’t try to weasel your way out of it or make changes without the other party agreeing to these changes to them. Your word is your bond.

Most of my childhood (and adult life) was spent doing a lot of geeky stuff: watching TV, playing video games and going to the movies. To some, it may have been a waste of time. Well, to me, it has made me what I am today... a geeky adult. I actually write for a couple of blogs, namely: geekwisdom.wordpress.com 3rdworldgeeks.com gamemoir.com Please check them out!

I totally agree with this, problem is govs, corporations, organizations are all about the shady biz and making empty promises or not keeping employees or people accurately informed about things relating to the company that could impact their jobs and by extension their livelihoods as well due to many needing said jobs to pay bills and well…survive because as bad as it might be to say we all need money to survive. Gov will say they appreciate ya and tell ya over and over ya are a valuable asset when serving…only to be cast aside like yesterday’s rubbish when they no longer need ya despite fighting in their wars and conflicts…promises there is help when it might be needed, promises they will pay for four full years of college (which was a lie only paid for part of it meanwhile ya have to pay the difference including school books and supplies), list goes on.
Point is it is a nice thought that promises should be honored and kept, but the reality is majority of the time take them with a grain of salt especially when comes from workplace or others. Unless ya know and trust them take any promises made with grain of salt, because chances are there is a hidden agenda…there is always a hidden agenda or fine print. The old saying trust but verify applies strongly in real life…to pretty much everything honestly and keeping your head on a swivel is a must at all times.
