“Is okay to lose to opponent. Must not lose to fear.”

From: The Karate Kid Part III

Genre: Movies

Who said it?: Mr. Miyagi

The story behind the quote: I’ve done a lot of quotes from the original Karate Kid. It was only a matter of time for me to post a quote from the other films. This week’s quote comes from the third film in the Karate Kid franchise.

The quote comes during the climax of the film. Daniel Laruso (once again played by Ralph Macchio) is fighting a losing battle against Mike Barnes, the “bad boy of karate.” Daniel, deathly scared of his foe now, wants to quit. Mr. Miyagi (played by the late Pat Morita) delivers the quote to his student in order to help him regain some courage.

Geek wisdom: Fear is a huge hurdle to overcome, especially when you’re afraid of someone or something specifically. However, a lot of the time, this fear only magnifies our doubt. We do have to face our fears and maybe, just maybe, it won’t be as bad as we think.

Most of my childhood (and adult life) was spent doing a lot of geeky stuff: watching TV, playing video games and going to the movies. To some, it may have been a waste of time. Well, to me, it has made me what I am today... a geeky adult. I actually write for a couple of blogs, namely: geekwisdom.wordpress.com 3rdworldgeeks.com gamemoir.com Please check them out!
