“No matter where you go, there you are.”

From: The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

Genre: Movies

Who said it?: Buckaroo Banzai

The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes from the cult classic sci-fi movie, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. The film follows Buckaroo Banzai, a highly intelligent man who managed to create a device that can allow people to cross dimensions… who just so happens to be a leader of a rock band.

The quote comes near the start of the film. Buckaroo Banzai (played by Peter Weller) and his band, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, are performing when he notices a sad lady. He stops playing to try to find out what’s wrong with her. The crowd heckles the woman. In a way to explain how life is, he delivers the quote.

Geek wisdom: Life is what is is. You can try to run away from it but it will always catch up to you. This does mean that life will have its ups and downs and you have to take the good with the bad.

Most of my childhood (and adult life) was spent doing a lot of geeky stuff: watching TV, playing video games and going to the movies. To some, it may have been a waste of time. Well, to me, it has made me what I am today... a geeky adult. I actually write for a couple of blogs, namely: geekwisdom.wordpress.com 3rdworldgeeks.com gamemoir.com Please check them out!

    1. Well the film “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension” came out in 1984. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome came out in 1985. So I would say Mad Max either stole the line or used the line as some sort of nod to Buckaroo Banzai or it was accidental. Either way the line originally comes from Buckaroo Banzai

    2. Another great quote from Buckaroo Banzai…

Buckaroo Banzai: You can check your anatomy all you want, and even though there may be normal variation, when it comes right down to it, this far inside the head it all looks the same. No, no, no, don’t tug on that. You never know what it might be attached to.
