From: Dirty Dancing
Genre: Movies
Who said it?: Johnny Castle
The story behind the quote: This quote comes from the low-budget (really) film, Dirty Dancing. The film was made on a shoestring budget of only $6 million and has since raked in more than $200 millions since its 1987 release.
The quote comes from pretty much the end of the film. Johnny Castle (played by the late Patrick Swayze) returns to perform the last dance of the season, even though he was already fired. He then confronts the father of Frances “Baby” Houseman (played by Jennifer Grey) and delivers the quote before the two dance provocatively to the song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.”
Oh, and just in case you came here looking for it, here’s Johnny and Baby dancing to “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” below.
Geek wisdom: While parents only mean well and try their best to protect their children, they will have the impulse to become a little overprotective. If you are a child or a teenager, you have to understand that and try to prove that you’re trustworthy enough to handle yourself. If you are a parent, you will have to eventually let go and hope that you raised your children well enough to recognize what’s right and wrong.
