“The world could always use more heroes.”

From: Overwatch

Genre: Video games

Who said it?: Tracer

The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes from Blizzard Entertainment’s most recent hit, Overwatch. Overwatch is a first person team based shooter where you control various heroes to complete different objectives. Since the game’s release, Overwatch has garnered critical acclaimed and secured itself a large and loyal fanbase thanks to solid game mechanics as well as incredible characters.

The quote comes from the poster girl of the game, Tracer. During the cinematic trailer, she says it to two young boys that helped her and Winston fend off Widowmaker and Reaper while in the Overwatch museum.

Additionally, you can select the phrase to be one of her in-game quotes as well.

Geek wisdom: In this day of age, we have to be more that just bystanders when we see bad things happen. We have to be much more active and act like the heroes we can be. We may not have the ability to rush into danger but we can still be heroes in our own way by actually doing some things to curb the wrong in the world in our own little way.

“But are you still ‘master of your domain’?”

From: Seinfeld

Genre: Television

Who said it?: A lot of the the cast!

The story behind the quote: We’ve already had a lot of other Seinfeld quotes on here. But that’s only natural as this legendary show has so many of them! So, what’s one more, huh?

This week’s quote comes from one of the most memorable episodes from the hit show, The Contest. The episode is so good that it won the show a Primetime Emmy for Writing as well as being ranked number 1 by TV Guide in their “Top 100 Episodes of All Time” list.

The episode has the titular characters Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza, Cosmo Kramer and Elaine Benes making a bet between themselves to see who can go the longest without masturbating. However, before the episode was set to begin filming, the Seinfeld team got a note that they couldn’t use the word “masturbate.” As such, the writing team cleverly rewrote the script to instead use euphemisms, such as “master of your own domain” to see if they had lost the contest.

Geek wisdom: People have a tendency for self-gratification at a moments notice. It’s so easy to indulge yourself as things can be had at the snap of a finger. However, there are going to be consequences with overindulging as well. Sometimes, we need to have some self-control to curb these urges.

We need to be the masters of our own domain sometimes.

“Slimy… yet satisfying.”

From: The Lion King

Genre: Movies

Who said it?: Pumbaa and Simba

The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes from The Lion King. This is actually the third time I’m getting a quote from this classic Disney film but that just goes to show you how memorable this film has become.

The quote comes from the middle of the Hakuna Matata number. After Simba leaves the Pridelands, he stumbles across Timon, a meerkat voiced by Nathan Lane and Pumbaa, a warthog voiced by Ernie Sabella. The duo shows the young lion that their sole source of food and protein comes from bugs. This initially disgusts Simba but, after trying one, he does agree to how the grubs fill his empty stomach.

Geek wisdom: There may be things that may seem distasteful initially, But, once you get used to it, you may actually grow to love it. So go ahead and try something new. You may never know it but you may actually find something you really like in something you initially thought to be disgusting.

“It’s super effective!”

From: Pokemon

Genre: Video Games

Who said it?: Narrator?

The story behind the quote: The quote comes from Nintendo’s franchise, Pokemon. This game was one of the biggest reasons why the Game Boy was a smash hit. In the game, you play the role of a Pokemon trainer who tries to travel the world and capture all of the possible Pocket Monsters out there. However, you will have to defeat them by pitting your own monsters against them as well as defeat other trainers who have the same goal.

There is a strategy, however, regarding which Pokemon to unleash. Depending on what element the creature is, you can dish out more damage by selecting the proper creature that has the opposing element. For example, Pikachu, who is the electricity element, will be able to do more damage to a Slowbro, which is a Water type Pokemon. When you do pick the right Pokemon and it does an attack, you’ll get the quote.
