The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes from “the Citizen Kane of bad movies,” The Room. Written, directed and produced by the enigmatic Tommy Wiseau, the movie is about a love triangle between Johnny (played by Tommy Wiseau himself), his fiancee Lisa and his best friend, Mark. At least, that’s what I’ve been able to piece together as The Room is generally a mess of unrelated stories and plot points, some of which are never addressed or discussed in the film.

The quote comes sometime in the middle of the film. Denny (played by Philip Haldiman) tells Johnny that he may be in love with Lisa. Johnny, with all his wisdom, says that okay and, in fact, that it’s great. That’s when the wise sage delivers the quote.

Geek wisdom: While this may be very obvious, it’s still on point. If more people did love each other, the world would indeed be a better place.

The quote comes from the infamous rooftop scene where Johnny bursts in, upset because, apparently, Lisa claims that he hit her. However, his anger soon vaporizes to greet Mark who… likes to hang out on the roof, I guess?

Geek wisdom: No matter how upset or mad you are, always try to make an effort to be cordial to the people around you. Even if you are upset about something, you have no right to take it out on anyone else. Even Johnny knew that and made sure to greet Mark once he saw him.

From: Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

The quote comes from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The first Home Alone movie was very successful and it actually spawned another feature length film as well as three more made-for-TV films. However, this was the only other film to feature Kevin McCalliseter (portrayed by Maculay Culkin); the other films featured a different family and a different kid. Also, Home Alone 2 is the only movie in the series that didn’t take place in the protagonist’s home.

The quote comes from, apparently, a mobster film called Angels with Even Filthier Souls, which is the sequel to Angels with Filthy Souls, a mobster movie that Kevin was watching in the first Home Alone. Johnny (played by Ralph Foody), the head mobster, accuses a woman of cheating with other men. Kevin uses this scene from the movie as a distraction to escape from the hotel staff.
