“Merry Christmas, you filthy animal… and a Happy New Year!”

From: Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Genre: Movies

Who said it?: “Johnny”

The story behind the quote: Thanks to thegreatiaino for the huge correction regarding the movie as noted in the comments section below.

The quote comes from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The first Home Alone movie was very successful and it actually spawned two more feature length movies as well as two made-for-TV films. However, this was the only other film to feature Kevin McCalliseter  (portrayed by Maculay Culkin); the other films featured a different family and a different kid. Also, Home Alone 2 is the only movie in the series that didn’t take place in the protagonist’s home.

The quote comes from, apparently, a mobster film  called Angels with Even Filthier Souls, which is the sequel to Angels with Filthier Souls, a mobster movie that Kevin was watching in the first Home Alone. Johnny, the head mobster, accuses a woman of cheating with other men. Kevin uses this scene from the movie as a distraction to escape from the hotel staff.

Most of my childhood (and adult life) was spent doing a lot of geeky stuff: watching TV, playing video games and going to the movies. To some, it may have been a waste of time. Well, to me, it has made me what I am today... a geeky adult. I actually write for a couple of blogs, namely: geekwisdom.wordpress.com 3rdworldgeeks.com gamemoir.com Please check them out!

  1. Everyone recognizes that saying in the movie ‘Home Alone’. It’s a hilariously funny story about a boy who accidentally leaves his parents and siblings to travel to Europe on Christmas holidays

  2. This is incorrect. The gangster movie in Home Alone 2 is Angels With Even Filthier Souls, a sequel to Angels With Filthy Souls, which he watches in the first one. In the first one, the quote is “Keep the change ya filthy animal”, not Merry Christmas.
