“Good. Bad. I’m the guy with the gun.”

From: Army of Darkness

Genre: Movies

Who said it?: Ash Williams

The story behind the quote: This week’s quote come from the comedy horror film, Army of Darkness. It is the third film in the Evil Dead film series, all of which were directed by Sam Raimi. In this movie, Ash Williams, the series protagonist, is sent to medieval times and he attempts to find a way back to his own time.

The quote comes early in the film. After a mysterious forces tosses Ash Williams (played by Bruce Campbell) into a mirror, the shards reform into Evil Ash (also played by Bruce Campbell). Evil Ash taunts the original Ash and punches him several times. Tired of the abuse, original Ash takes out his rifle and shoots his evil doppelganger in the face and delivers the quote.

Geek wisdom: Tools are just that: tools. It’s how these tools are used and  who uses them that’s more important. Everything can be used for good or bad but it matters who uses them and for what reason.

Most of my childhood (and adult life) was spent doing a lot of geeky stuff: watching TV, playing video games and going to the movies. To some, it may have been a waste of time. Well, to me, it has made me what I am today... a geeky adult. I actually write for a couple of blogs, namely: geekwisdom.wordpress.com 3rdworldgeeks.com gamemoir.com Please check them out!

  1. You know what I think of whenever I watch Army of Darkness and my son and I quote this at the same moment because it would be about the 20th time I’ve watched this movie? This is kind of like Indiana Jones where he shoots the sword master in the street. Instead of doing this huge fight, he just shoots the dude in the face. Ash is to horror as Indiana Jones is to adventure films.
