From: The Golden Girls

Genre: Television

Who said it?: Sophia Petrillo

The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes from the classic US sitcom The Golden Girls. The show is all about four older women living their golden years together in the same house in Miami, Florida. The show was a smash hit and is still recognized today as one of the most popular sitcoms of all time thanks to an all star cast that included Beatrice Arthur as the sarcastic Dorothy, Betty White as the dimwitted Rose, Rue McClanahan as the Southern belle Blanche and Estelle Getty as Dorothy’s mother, Sophia Petrillo.

The quote actually comes from Sophia. As the oldest of the quartet, she has a lot of experiences she would like to give her younger roommates the benefit of her wisdom while in Sicily. Geek wisdom:  Sometimes, it doesn’t matter if a story is true or not. A lot of the time, it doesn’t really matter if it’s factual or pure fiction. What matters is if we can learn from those stories. What’s important is the message the story is trying to convey. Just because something is made up, that doesn’t mean we can’t get some life lessons from it.
