“We don’t get to choose how we start in this life. Real ‘greatness’ is what you do with the hand you’re dealt.”

From: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception

Genre: Video Games

Who said it?: Victor Sullivan

The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes from Naughty Dog’s action-adventure video game series, Uncharted, spcifically, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Like the other entries in the series, Drake’s Deception stars Nathan Drake (played by Nolan North), a treasure hunter who get entangled in a life and death adventure with his friends with the hopes to get rick quick.

The quote comes during the ending of the game. After managing to escape from the lost city of Ubar as it collapses, Victor Sullivan (played by Richard McGonagle) takes Drake to the side and tells him that he made a lot of mistakes during his lifetime. He then hands Nate his lost wedding ring and delivers the quote.

Geek wisdom: What you get in life depends on how much effort you put into it. It’s possible to grow up in the roughest part of the neighborhood and in poverty. But successful people will not let those disadvantages stop them from their own greatness. Neither should you.

Most of my childhood (and adult life) was spent doing a lot of geeky stuff: watching TV, playing video games and going to the movies. To some, it may have been a waste of time. Well, to me, it has made me what I am today... a geeky adult. I actually write for a couple of blogs, namely: geekwisdom.wordpress.com 3rdworldgeeks.com gamemoir.com Please check them out!
