The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes from the incredibly popular ’90s sitcom, Friends. The show is about six eclectic friends who live in New York and go about living their lives. The show was a smash hit and is still very popular, airing on reruns all around the world.

The quote comes from the very first episode of the show. Rachel Green (played by Jennifer Aniston) gets cold feet on the day of her wedding and runs to her former best friend from childhood, Monica Geller (played by Courteney Cox. Growing up in a rich family, Rachel has difficulty curbing her old spending habits despite not having a job or money. This was until her new friends encourage her to symbolically cut her ties to her old, spoiled life by forcing her to destroy her credit cards. This is when Monica delivers the quote.

Geek wisdom: Life is unpredictable and there are always going to be ups and downs. Sometimes, life is great but sometimes life will throw you a curveball. Life can sometimes feel unfair… but life is just like that.
