“On that day… the world was changed forever…”

From: Final Fantasy VI

Genre: Video Games

Who said it?: Unseen narrator

The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes the Squaresoft game, Final Fantasy VI. Known as Final Fantasy III in Western audiences when it was released on the Super Nintendo, the game was actually the sixth installment in Squaresoft successful JRPG series.

The quote comes the middle of the game. The main villain, Kefka, removes three statues from alignment, which starts to destroy the world. The party tries to flee from the floating continent but their airship is split in two during the escape. It looks like the world is now in ruin while the unseen narrator ominously delivers the quote.

Geek wisdom: There are going to be life-changing events in the world and in your life. Some will be good. Some will be bad. And we all have to deal with these situations no matter what. How you handle them will always be up to you.

“…But you’re still hungry.”

From: Chrono Trigger

Genre: Video Games

Who said it?: Narrator

The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes from Squaresoft very successful JRPG Chrono Trigger. The game follows Chrono and his band of time travelling adventurers in the hopes of defeating Lavos, an alien being who causes a cataclysmic event in 1999. Chrono and his friends travel throughout time to find a way to defeat Lavos before this happens.

The quote is mentioned in the future, specifically the year 2300. The planet has been devastated by Lavos. The party do find the remnants of civilization and a chamber called the Enertron, which can restore the party’s health and magic but does not satisfy their other needs…

Geek wisdom: While the Enertron will fill up the party’s life and magic points, it still does not make them not feel the negative effects of starvation. This just means that, while they will live, there is still the pain of not being satisfied. There is more to life than just surviving. Truly living life is enjoying life.
