“Did you put a fucking mod in this?”

From: Resident Evil 5

Genre: Video Games

Who said it?: Luke from The Pitt Crew

The story behind the quote: This week’s quote comes from Capcom‘s Resident Evil 5. Or more accurately, the playthrough from The Pitt Crew. The game follows series regular Chris Redfield and a new character, Sheva Alomar, as they investigate a possible bioweapon sale in West Africa. However, things quickly escalate when two people from Chris’ past also enter the picture.

The quote comes very early in the Pitt Crew’s playthrough of the game. During the first few moments, they reach a cutscene where both Chris and Sheva are being briefed for their mission. Brendon and Chad from the Pitt Crew comment how Sheva doesn’t look like the character. Instead, she looks more like Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider games. They quickly question Luke regarding this and, while delivering the quote, ask him if the made changes to the game’s code. While Luke denies it, his lie is immediately exposed as Chris Redfield’s game model is replaced by Master Chief from the Halo games.

The clip of this became a meme for Resident Evil fans because of the exquisite timing when Luke denies the allegations but is promptly caught.

Geek wisdom: It’s usually a good idea to tell the truth as early as possible rather than wait for your lies to catch up to you. It actually gets worse if you keep the lie alive for a long period of time as, once you are caught, it just shows you cannot be trusted.

Most of my childhood (and adult life) was spent doing a lot of geeky stuff: watching TV, playing video games and going to the movies. To some, it may have been a waste of time. Well, to me, it has made me what I am today... a geeky adult. I actually write for a couple of blogs, namely: geekwisdom.wordpress.com 3rdworldgeeks.com gamemoir.com Please check them out!
